As I begin to get older, the thought of my genetic skin condition never going away is more and more at the forefront of my mind. I am learning that it is not longer something that I feel I need to cover up and shy away from talking about, Making for my current relationship with my skin condition to be one filled with complications. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, my skin condition is inherently the largest physical quality of my body.
Epidermis is based on the textural quality of my skin condition and the relation of it to textures within the natural world. With skin being the largest organ it is also the outermost layer of the human body. As I begin to become more secure and work to heal the relationship I have with my own condition, I begin to think about skin in the sense of the space it encompasses of the body.
Through the use of self portraiture and textural imagery, I engage with the different physical qualities of both my skin and the world I inhabit; reflecting on the different factors and importance of the organ itself.
